Once the construction part of a building process is over, all you will see all over the house is dust and dirt. Awful, isn’t it? There is dust from the plastering of walls, the sanding of windows, the paint jobs, and the list goes on, and on, and on. Usually builders clean the post construction dust and dirt but that cleaning is often rather superficial. And hence the inevitable thing remains that you need to clean it all up yourself prior to moving in.
Getting Started
The first thing to be decided is what is there to be cleaned and what sort of resources will you need to use. Tour every room in the house. Make detailed notes of the dust-stricken areas and what type of cleaner will be useful there. Also, note the areas which might require major work and effort and thus might consume a lot of time. Another thing you can do is gather all the cleaning supplies in the garage (if you’re happy enough to have one). Take out your shoes and wear a pair of special feet protection shoes.
The First Step – Clean the Heavy Dust
With a dry duster, wipe the counters and cupboards to remove sawdust. Start from the ceiling and move on downwards. Dust windows and shelves. During construction, dust gets accumulated in every crevice of the home. Vacuum thoroughly the whole area. Use various attachments to dig out dirt and dust from corners and crevices. Now, sweep and mop the entire house. And be prepared, you will have to do it several times as dust particles are so tricky that they can’t be removed during the first attempt.
The Final Step
Prepare a bucket of bleach water. Have lots of sponges ready. Dunk sponge in bleach water and wring out excess water. Now again, starting from ceiling to bottom, wipe down everything. For chrome-plated fixtures and mirrors, use alcohol and paper towels. For streaks, use blackboard eraser.
Though it sounds easy, once you get down to clean an after construction house, the task looks insurmountable. It is also tiresome. Therefore, it is always a good idea to have a helping hand here and hire professionals to do the work for you. Cleaners are trained and they have the experience to clean the house to the highest possible standard. Cleaners have all the necessary tools and cleaning solutions and are skilled to clean places like drains and duct works. Anyway that you are comfortable with, just make sure your house is all clean and polished before you move in.
